“The Katharine”


There is a new restaurant coming to town. Due to open late April, “The Katharine,” named for the R.J. Reynolds family matriarch, is located in the Reynolds Building on the corner of 4th and Main.  The Katharine Brasserie & Bar will have an art deco style with the menu of grand French café and a little southern cuisine added in as well.

I had the opportunity to meet the General Manager, Herbie Gimmel and Executive Chef, Ed Witt this week.  They are so excited to bring this great restaurant to our city.  They both have many years  of experience in the food industry and restaurant business. Chef Ed Witt hails from great restaurants such as The Partisan in Washington, D.C., and Daniel and River Cafe in New York and Rubicon and Jardiniere in San Francisco. Herbie Gimmel, the General Manager, and a High Point native, also worked in NY at  B.E.D., the Gansevoort Hotel and the Empire Hotel. He was most recently general manager in Charleston, S.C. at the Screen Door.

My dad, father-in-law and one of my grandparents all retired from R.J. Reynolds and my mom worked there for many years. It’s so exciting to know that the Reynolds Building is being preserved and that once again the grand lobby and halls will bustle with activity. I’m so looking forward to experiencing a great meal in the iconic building.
